1. Getting started


1.1 Installation


Download the compressed file from the link. Retrieve the files from the compressed file into your preferred location. Double-click on the installation wizard to run. Follow the instruction of the installation wizard.

1.2 Run the program


Run the program from the Start menu or by clicking on the shortcut on your desktop.

1.3 Settings


From the Menu Bar select «Tools/Options». In the dialog window select your preferred time format and units of measurement.

1.4 Creating diaries


From the Menu Bar select «File/Diaries». From the diary management window, select the «plus» option at the bottom of the form to open the «New Diary» dialog window. Complete the following fields:
1. Diary name. The name should be unique and can contain letters, numbers and spaces.
2. Diary location. You can save the diary either in Application folder or in User Application Data folder. If you are not sure where to save the file, keep the default selection.
3. Author. Can be left blank.

Once you have selected the options, click «OK». Next, select the created diary from the diary management window and click «Open». The diary will be opened automatically.

You can start adding trip details to the diary straight way. Start with adding Locations, Fish Species and Tackle Items.

2. Information Management


2.1 Trip


To add a new Trip, go to Trips and select the «plus» option from the Operations toolbar.
To edit the Trip, go to Trips, select the Trip you want to edit and click the «pencil» icon on the Operations toolbar.
To delete the Trip, go to Trips, select the Trip you want to delete and click the «dustbin» icon on the Operations toolbar.

2.2 Tackle items


To add a new Tackle Item, go to Tackle Items and select the «plus» option from the Element Operations toolbar.
To edit the Tackle Item, go to Tackle Items, find the Tackle Item you want to edit and click the «pencil» icon on the Element Operations toolbar.
To delete the Tackle Item, go to Tackle Items, find the Tackle Item you want to delete and click the «dustbin» icon on the Element Operations toolbar.

2.3 Locations


To add a new Location, go to Locations and select the «plus» option from the Element Operations toolbar.
To edit the Location, go to Locations, find the Location you want to edit and click the «pencil» icon on the Operations toolbar.
To delete the Location, go to Locations, find the Location Item you want to delete and click the «dustbin» icon on the Operations toolbar.

Each Location can have an unlimited number of Sub-locations with geographical coordinates. You can get coordinates from geo-location services (Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, Bing Maps etc.) or from your satellite navigation.

How to get location coordinates in Google Maps:
1. Launch the service and find the location you are interested in.
2. Right-click on the pinned location and select «What’s here?».
3. You will see the pop-up box with location information, which you can copy and paste.

   


2.4 Fish species


To add a new Fish Species, go to Fish Species and select the «plus» option from the Element Operations toolbar.
To edit the Fish Species, go to Fish Species, find the Fish Species you want to edit and click the «pencil» icon on the Operations toolbar.
To delete the Fish Species, go to Fish Species, find the Fish Species Item you want to delete and click the «dustbin» icon on the Operations toolbar.

You can find the scientific name of the fish on Fishbase.org.

2.5 Important Information


You cannot delete a Location if it is used in at least one Trip. In order to delete a Location, first delete all Trips which contain this Location. The same rule applies to Tackle Items and Fish Species.


3. Viewing Information


3.1 Trips


To view Trips, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar. You will see a list of Trips (shown as calendar items) sorted by date.

3.2 Trip


To view a Trip, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar and choose the Trip you want to view.
The header of the Trip overview contains Date, Time, Location of the Trip and the pop-up box with information on the duration of fishing (shown only if the end date of fishing is specified). You can also find all files linked to the Trip. To view a file, click on its preview (for images) or on the link (for other files).
At the bottom of the window you can see Anglers, Weather, Catch, and Comments.

3.3 Tackle items


To view Tackle Items, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar. Each Tackle Item contains its name, description and linked files.

3.4 Locations


To view Locations, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar. Each Location contains its name, description, linked files and Sub-locations. Each sub-location includes its name, description, coordinations and linked files.
If a sub-location has coordinates, you can use one of the geo-location services to view the place on the map (click on the «map» icon to use this functionality).

3.5 Fish species


To view Fish Species, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar. Each Species contains its common and scientific names, description and linked files.

3.6 Statistics


To view Statistics, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar.


4. Options


The Options Window allows users to customise program settings. To change settings, select the relevant option from the Main toolbar or use the Menubar «Tools/Options...».

4.1 Time format


The Time format defines the style of viewing and editing Trips. Select the time format you are familiar with.

4.2 Units of measurement


Units of measurement define the style of viewing and editing information. Select units of measurement you are familiar with.

4.3 Maps


This option allows you to specify the geo-location service which the program will be using to display your Sub-locations on the map. The format of coordinates will define the style of their viewing, adding and editing.
By default FishingScroll uses Google Maps, but you can change this option to other service (Yahoo Maps, Bing Maps).

4.4 Linked Files


Trips, Tackle Items, Locations, Sub-location and Fish Species may contain linked files. You can specify in Options, whether you prefer linked files to be copied automatically into a folder next to the diary, or whether the program should use original files (copies are not created). Make sure you have sufficient disk space if you select the option with file copying.

FishingScroll has an in-built image file viewer, which is enabled by default. If you prefer to use your standard system image file viewer, you can disable the FishingScroll viewer.
